Construction and renovations at the Brown Mansion are now underway. The project includes the following improvements:
• Accessibility enhancements, including the installation of a handicap-accessible ramp
• Renovation of the basement
• Renovation of the basement bathrooms
• Replacement of windows
• Replacement of the heating system
• Historic preservation work
• Restoration of the covered porch at the rear of the building
• Construction of a new basketball court & pickleball court
During construction, parking at the Brown Mansion may be limited or unavailable. Village Office closures may occur during September and October, and the payment drop box may also be temporarily inaccessible.
Residents are strongly encouraged to pay their water bills online or mail their payments for the September bill. Please check the Village website for the most up-to-date information regarding office closures and access.

Water System Improvement Project
Our water system improvement project has restarted this spring. This project is part of an ongoing effort to enhance water quality, system reliability, and infrastructure throughout the village.

- Brown Road
- Main Street (multiple sections)
- Washington Street (Pike Street to County Route 53)
- Continued water main installation
- Roadway, yard & sidewalk restoration
What Residents Can Expect During construction:
- Temporary traffic delays or lane closures
- Construction noise during regular working hours
- Periodic water service interruptions (advance notice will be provided)
- Increased presence of construction crews and equipment
- Dust and dirt in and around active construction areas
- Sidewalks that are incomplete or actively being worked on
- Ongoing lawn and yard restoration, including topsoil, seeding, and other restoration work
- Ongoing restoration of resident driveways impacted by the Water Project

The Village has been made aware of a business going door-to-door offering driveway work in areas affected by the Village Water Project. The business may be using the names W&W Asphalt and/or Statewide Contractors.
The Village has received reports that this business is performing driveway work without providing a written quote or agreed-upon price beforehand and then charging residents an excessive amount after the work has been completed.
Residents are not responsible for any out-of-pocket costs for yard or driveway restoration that is part of the Village Water Project.
If you are approached about additional or private driveway work, please use caution and report any suspicious activity to the Village.
Businesses offering private driveway work, including those using the names WW Asphalt or Statewide Contractors, are not affiliated with or authorized by the Village. Residents are responsible for verifying any contractor they choose to hire. New Water Meter Pits and Your Home's Plumbing System
As part of the Village of Brownville Water Project, a new meter pit with a backflow prevention device is being installed at each property as required by New York State regulations. These devices protect the public water supply by preventing water from flowing back into the Village water system, helping to reduce the risk of contamination from private properties.
After installation, some homeowners may experience increased pressure within their home's plumbing system because the backflow prevention device creates a closed system. It is important to note that the Village's water pressure has not changed as a result of this project.
In some cases, a licensed plumber may recommend installing a thermal expansion tank or making other plumbing modifications to address these conditions. Unfortunately, there is no way for the Village to determine in advance which properties may require these adjustments.
While most properties will not require any additional work, any modifications needed within a private plumbing system are the responsibility of the property owner and must be completed at the homeowner's expense. We understand this may be an unexpected expense and appreciate your understanding as we work to meet state requirements and protect the public water system.
