NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
Water Project Lawn Restoration Update

The Village's contractors are temporarily pausing topsoil and grass seeding due to the current heat. Restoration work is expected to resume at the end of August, when weather conditions are more favorable.

If your property has already been seeded, please water the area daily to help the grass germinate and establish.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete the Water Project restoration.

New Water Meter Pits and Your Home's Plumbing System
As part of the Village of Brownville Water Project, a new meter pit with a backflow prevention device is being installed at each property as required by New York State regulations. These devices protect the public water supply by preventing water from flowing back into the Village water system, helping to reduce the risk of contamination from private properties.
After installation, some homeowners may experience increased pressure within their home's plumbing system because the backflow prevention device creates a closed system. It is important to note that the Village's water pressure has not changed as a result of this project.
In some cases, a licensed plumber may recommend installing a thermal expansion tank or making other plumbing modifications to address these conditions. Unfortunately, there is no way for the Village to determine in advance which properties may require these adjustments.
While most properties will not require any additional work, any modifications needed within a private plumbing system are the responsibility of the property owner and must be completed at the homeowner's expense. We understand this may be an unexpected expense and appreciate your understanding as we work to meet state requirements and protect the public water system.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these important water system improvements are completed.

Protect Your Water Meter Pit
As part of the Village's water system improvement project, new water meter pits are being installed throughout the Village. These meter pits are Village property and are an important part of the public water system.

The Village strongly recommends that property owners mark the location of their meter pit, especially during the winter months when snow may cover it. This can help prevent accidental damage during snow removal, plowing, lawn maintenance, or landscaping activities.

Please be advised that any damage to a meter pit resulting from these activities or negligence will be repaired at the property owner's expense.
